Tourism Sector Calls for All-out Product Publicity

With Nepal Tourism Year 2011 approaching nearer, tourism enterpreneurs today urged the government for product publicity at the domestic and international levels. Speaking at their programme, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Sharat Singh Bhandari said, "Tourism is the most important sector that can support the country's economic development.'' Nepal Association of Travel and Tour Agents president Ram Kaji Koney informed about the Nepal China Sales Mission 2009. The mission led by NATTA comprised 35 participants from 25 companies. The mission left Kathmandu on August 29 and returned on September 5. Main focus of the programme was NTY 2011, 43rd World Congress of United Federation of Travel Agents Association (UFTAA), and 3rd NATTA Himalayan International Travel Mart in Kathmandu, he said.

Hotel Association Nepal president Prasiddha Bahadur Pandey called for cutting the value added tax (VAT to 10 from 13 per cent for hotels and discount in VAT on foreign currency issued by tourism enterpreneurs.

Nepal Tourism Board chief executive officer Prachanda Man Singh said the enquiry rate from abroad had increased for September, October and November. Singh urged the government to conduct more promotional programme for positive information about the improving scenario of the country.

Singh said the study regarding land demarcation of Bara-Nijgarh second international airport is already complete.
