Activa Back With New Look, More Mileage

Syakar Company, the authorized distributor of Honda two-wheelers for Nepal, on Tuesday introduced the New Honda Activa, an upgraded version of Honda´s popular Activa scooter.

Syakar also announced a growth of 81 percent in fiscal Year 2008/09 and added that it was targeting to sell 30,000 Honda two-wheelers in the country in this fiscal year. Saurabh Jyoti, director of Jyoti Group, Syakar Company´s parent organization, said at a press conference that the company had sold 18,500 two-wheelers in 2008/09 fiscal year.

Talking to myrepublica.com, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India´s (HMSI´s) Operating Head - Sale and Marketing, Naresh Kumar Rattan, said he had been impressed that Honda two-wheelers had established itself as a market leader in just eight years of entering the market with 28 percent market share here.

“In India, too, we saw a sales growth of 18 percent, selling 1,070,000 units, last year when the whole industry grew by only 5 percent,” he said, adding that HMSI had set a target of selling 1,250,000 units for this year. “We are the market leader in almost all the segments that we exist in. We might not be the number one in the 150 cc segment but ours is still the most respected bike in this segment and demand is usually higher than what we can produce.”

He said one of the reasons for Honda´s popularity was the brand´s world wide image and HMSI´s philosophy of giving both buyers and sellers a confidence that each bike they were dealing with was a high quality product. “Our creative team also feels joy in creating. This helps in understanding the customer for whom the product is developed, which translates into satisfaction for every stakeholder,” he said.

Rattan also revealed that Honda was planning a more affordable commuter bike with high fuel efficiency. The new product, expected later this year, would be in the 100 cc segment, he said.

Talking about the rise in competition seen in the last year or so, Rattan said that HMSI did not look at competition because it was more focused at what the consumer´s need rather than what others were making.
