KMC starts removing illegal hoarding boards


THE Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has started removing hoarding boards from various places in the city after its requests to relocate them “were repeatedly ignored”. On Wednesday, KMC officials removed six hoarding boards from various places in the Capital claiming that they occupied space illegally. The officials removed illegal boards from areas, including New Road, Rastriya Sabha Griha and the Airport Gate. “Even after repeated notices and warnings, the hoarding board owners ignored us. Now they have to face the consequences,” said Dhanapati Sapkota, chief of the KMC’s I m p l e m e• t a t i o• Department. “As initial warning, we removed flexes of 41 illegal hoarding boards on Tuesday. However, the board owners didn’t seem to be concerned. Now we have started pulling down the entire frames,” Sapkota added. The KMC considers hoarding boards constructed on high roofs and those in the public places |illegal. According to a survey carried out by the KMC, around 653 hoarding boards in the city are illegally placed. Among them, 385 are located on roofs. The KMC officials said they have deployed adequate manpower and equipment to remove the hoarding boards. The officials plan to remove all the illegal boards within a week. Firefighters remove hoarding boards from a building at New Road in Kathmandu on Wednesday.
