KATHMANDU: As part of its CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiative, Everest Bank has made arrangements for pure drinking water at Geta Eye Hospital situated in Dhangadi, Kathmandu. AK Aluwaliya, chief executive officer of Everest Bank, and Dr Suresh Panta, head of Geta Eye Hospital, inaugurated the new service amid a programme. The bank has said it is committed to work on several areas to increase the status of health, education and infrastructure sectors.

Kailash Bikas Bank helps clean Phewa lake

Kailash Bikas Bank (KBB) has helped clean water hyacinth in Phewa Lake of the tourist down of Pokhara. A cleaning event was jointly conducted on August 16 by KBB, local financial cooperatives, local clubs, Pokhara sub-metropolitan city, the Nepal Police and local people, stated the bank´s press release. According to the bank, more than 200 participants helped clean the hyacinth. Excessive growth of hyacinth in and around the lake had defaced the scenic lake. “KBB initiated the event as we are not confined only to banking activities. We also like to involve ourselves in social activities,” said Gopal Parsad Poudel, director of KBB.

CSR of Shivam cement

As a part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Shivam Cement has awarded a scholarship worth Rs 13,500 to Ashika Thing of Sukaura VDC-7 of Makawanpur district. The brilliant but economically deprived student has been pursuing a course on lab technician in Makwanpur Technical institute, Hetauda since last year, states a press release issued by the company

Heritage painting competition

NMB Bank has opened registrations for the 2nd NMB Bank Inter School Heritage Painting Competition 2013. The competition is scheduled to be held on September 21, 2013. The aim of this event is to create awareness about the importance of heritage among younger generation, a bank statement said.

EBL financial support

Everest Bank Limited has extended a financial support of Rs 111,000 to the flood victims of the Western region through President Ram Baran Yadav. In a statement, the banks said it has always been conscious of its social responsibilities, and as part of its CSR initiatives, it has been extending support for the benefit of the people.

Over 24,000 students benefiting from Ncell's CSR initiative

Ncell, a leading GSM operator, spent a total of Rs 66.17 million in education sector over the past three years under its corporate social responsibility (CSR), benefiting 24,462 students across the country. Its CSR activities in the education sector included support for schools in infrastructure development under ´Adopt a School´ program, assistance for digital libraries and scholarship for girl students. Ncell spent Rs 52.43 million under ´Adopt a School´ program, Rs 9.23 million for digital libraries and Rs 4.5 million for scholarship for girl students. Its CSR activities were launched in 55 schools. Similarly, it has been providing scholarship to 15 girls. Thanks to ´Adopt a School´ program, students in 55 community schools do not have to face problems like studying in broken-down building, compulsion to see multiple classes in single room and cancellation of classes during rainfalls and storms. Students of BP Primary School in Sonbarsha village of Banke were among those facing the plight before the Ncell´s assistance reached there. “Cozy concrete building has replaced the old devastated building. Students of different grades now sit in separate rooms. Rain and storm do not force us to stop classes. It became possible because of Ncell´s support,” Basanta Chaudhary, principal of the school said. BP Primary School is one of the many beneficiaries of Ncell´s CSR activities. According to Ncell, it provided support to the schools for new buildings, toilets, drinking water facilities, furniture like desk and bench, educational materials and sports accessories along with blackboard, carpet and cushion for proper classroom management, among others. “Thanks to Ncell´s support, more than 335 students of the school are benefiting from the better learning environment,” said Ravi Tuladhar, coordinator of Banke Unesco Club that coordinated for the support from the local level. Ncell´s support to the school has led to increment in the number of students and drop in the number of absentees and drop outs. Similarly, Panchakanya Higher Secondary School in Ratnanagar, Chitwan and Rastriya Madhyamik Vidhyalaya of Waling, Syangja boasts of well-equipped libraries with Ncell´s support. Ncell has also implemented digital library project in 13 other schools, providing computer and accessories, educational materials, training to the teachers and supporting transfer of computer skills to students. It has also provided scholarships to 15 girls of remote and rural districts for five years. “We are glad we could bring smiles on the faces of about 25,000 students of 55 schools that have benefited from our sustainable CSR initiative in education,” Sanju Koirala, corporate communication director of Ncell, said.

Siddhartha Bank gifts Rs 50k

KATHMANDU: As part of its CSR (corporate social responsibility), Siddhartha Bank Limited contributed Rs 50,000 towards higher education and accommodation of underprivileged girls of Kalikot and Sindhupalchok under the RHEST (Rural Health and Education Service Trust). Shailaja Gyawali, head - Valley Resources of Siddhartha Bank, handed over the sum to the RHEST. The INGO has been working for the prevention of girls trafficking and violence against women, education of girls and improvement of woman’s reproductive health in Nepal for the last 21 years.

Air Asia donates Rs 500,000

MALAYSIA-BASED budget carrier Air Asia on Friday donated Rs 500,000 to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund for the victims of recent floods in various parts of the country. A team led by Azhanudin Shah Azman, flight operations director of Air Asia X, met Chairman of the Interim Election Government Khil Raj Regmi and handed over the cheque. On the occasion, Azman said the aid is part of the carrier’s corporate social responsibility. The airline that operates daily flight on the Kathmandu-Kuala Lumpur sector made its debut in the Nepali skies on July 3, 2012.

IME, Global IME hand over Rs 1m to disaster rescue fund

KATHMANDU: International Money Express (IME) and Global IME Bank have handed over Rs 1 million to the Prime Minister Disaster Rescue Fund for the relief of Darchhula flood victims. Chandra Prasad Dhakal, chairman of Global IME Bank and Executive Chairman of IME, and Global IME Bank CEO Ratna Raj Bajracharya jointly handed over the cheque to Chairman of the Interim Election Council Khil Raj Regmi.

Unilever Nepal supports flood victims

Unilever Nepal Limited on Monday handed over a check worth Rs 500,000 to Prime Minister´s Relief Fund for the support of flood victims in different parts of the country. Srikanth Srinivasamadhavan, managing director of Unilever Nepal handed over the check to Chairman of the Interim Election Council Khil Raj Regmi at the latter´s office in Singhadurbar on Monday, a statement issued by Unilever Nepal said.

Association of Nabil Bank Staff (ANBS) helps flood-hit

Association of Nabil Bank Staff (ANBS) as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) collected financial help worth Rs 517,030.90 and clothes for the flood victims of far-western development region. A cheque was handed over to the president of Hridaya Group Manish Jha by the director of Nabil Bank Shambhu Prasad Poudel amid a function.

CEDB continues CSR

Clean Energy Development Bank (CEDB) in view of continuing with the expansion of its Eco Campaign programme yet again, has once again conducted the classes at various schools to spread awareness regarding environmental degradation and its projected impacts through education, advocacy and action -as a part of its larger CSR movement, the `Clean Circle' -to realise an eco-friendly Nepal. Hotel Annapurna supports flood victims

Executives of Hotel Annapurna handed over a relief package meant to the flood victims of the Far-western region to Pramila Acharya, president of Zonta Club Nepal on Sunday. Zonta Club Nepal will coordinate the distribution of the relief materials contributed from the hotel staff. Thanking the staff, Shreejana Rana, director of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Research and Development (R&D) of the hotel, pointed out the quick and prompt response of the staff towards assisting the compatriots during the time of need. This relief package was donated to complement Hotel Annapurna’s CSR programme.

Nepal SBI Bank supports flood victims

Nepal SBI Bank Ltd has extended its hands to the victims of floods and landslides by providing financial support of Rs 200,000 to the ´Prime Minister Natural Disaster Relief Fund´. Alok Kumar Sharma, managing director of the bank, handed over the check for Rs 200,000 to Chairman of Interim Election Government Khil Raj Regmi at the latter´s office in Singhadurbar on Sunday. Issuing a statement, the bank said it provide the amount as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives

Himalayan Bank CSR

As part of its CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiative, Himalayan Bank Limited has provided daily essentials and commodities to the elderly people at Jyoti Ashram in Thankot, Kathmandu. Himalayan General Manager Sushil Joshi handed over the items amid a programme. In a statement, bank said it provided items like rice, pulses, edible oil, sugar, tea and apparels, among others.

Janata Bank CSR

As part of its CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiative, Janata Bank Limited has established a relief fund to help the victims of flood in Darchula. Named ‘Darchula Badi Pidit Relief Fund’, the fund will be mobilised for providing required facilities to the victims, the bank’s statement said. The bank has appealed to the general public to support the cause by making deposits in account number 020002007006101. Deposits can be made through any of the bank outlets.

CSR initiative for Danghighat will continue: Buddha Air

Buddha Air, the largest domestic airlines in the country, has announced to continue its assistance worth Rs 1.5 million to Danghighat Development Committee (DDC) of Morang district as part of its CSR for current fiscal year.

The airline has disbursed Rs 1 million in the last fiscal year, which was used for infrastructural development with major focus on education.

Airline officials said the remaining money of the Rs 1.5 million assistance committed for the last fiscal year will be disbursed in a week.

Speaking at a program organized at Dangighat on Tuesday, Managing Director of Buddha Air Birendra Bahadur Basnet said the airline was positive about increasing the assistance for the current fiscal year, subject to effective utilization of the fund and overall financial health of the airline. We have been receiving many proposals and we will slowly increase our involvement with development programs so that more people can benefit from our CSR initiatives, he added.

The airline has so far distributed Rs 1 million in different phases and the assistance was provided in the ratio of 60:40, in which 40 percent of the project cost was contributed by locals, mainly through labor contribution.

Under the first phase, five schools and a police station were supported with assistance for infrastructure development. The activities included establishment of libraries, science labs and construction of boundary walls, gates apart from purchasing land for the school. Similarly under the second phase, 17 toilets were constructed for the local community.

Shaligram Basnet, president of DDC, said final installment of the payment will be used for making a road and improving basic infrastructure of the VDC. " Our VDC is a step ahead of other nearby villages and Buddha Air has played a major role in making out VDC a more developed one," he added.

Locals have sought an assistance Rs 3 million from Buddha Air for a project to black-top the road. They said they have already collected Rs 1 million from local resources and were looking forward for help from the airline.

Yeti Airlines donates million

Yeti Airlines donated Rs 10,79,784 to four social organizations amid a function here today. The airlines gave Rs 2, 69,946 to Helpless Children Welfare Mission, Sewa Kendra Leprosy Relief, Spinal Injury Rehabilitation Centre, Women for Human Rights, each.

Earlier, it had handed over an amount of Rs 11, 37,768 to the above-named four organizations.

In addition, Yeti Airlines has donated Rs 48,12,568 to Tewa, OCCED, Maiti Nepal, Nepal Leprosy Relief, Nepal Glaucoma Eye Clinic (Tilganga) and Sewa Kendra Leprosy.

The airlines is providing 50 per cent discount in airfare to disabled people, 25 per cent to senior citizens and 20 per cent discount to UN-affiliated organizations.

IME Health Camp

In keeping with its community development initiatives and in its endeavor to give back to the society at large through welfare activities, International Money Express (IME) Pvt. Ltd. held a one-day free health check-up camp at Bhaleshwore Secondary School in Malpi VDC, Panauti of Kavre district on Saturday. The health check-up camp was held in association with the Lions Club of Kathmandu-Ashoka, Ananta and Abishekh.

Prisma Advertising's Social Campaign

Prisma Advertising launched `20 social-work campaign' to mark its 20th years of operation from Sunday. Under the campaign, Prisma organized a blood donation camp on its office premises on Sunday. The drive to donate blood was organized on Tuesday as a nationwide campaign. Prisma has provided Rs 11,001 support to economic journalist Gajendra Budhathoki who was half-paralyzed in a motorbike accident. The agency has also supported the Economic Journalists Award Fund with a purse of Rs 50,001. It is planning to organize other social activities throughout its 20th year.
