A milk collection centre has been established for the first time in a remote VDC of Makwanpur district. The centre has been established at Sarikhet VDC in a bid to improve the production, processing and marketing of milk and milk products.
With the coordination of Community Development Fund, Sarikhet, and support from Village Development Fund, Maintar Drinking Water and Sanitation Project and Women Loan Cooperatives, villagers have been successful in setting up the collection centre. At present, the centre collects 30 litres of milk daily. Manahari-based Small Farmers Cooperatives markets the collected milk. The opening of the milk centre has lured most farmers in Sarikhet towards buffalo rearing. Farmers say they are happy to sell whatever the quantity of milk is produced.
