Central Dairy Cooperatives' Association Limited Nepal (CDCAN) has threatened a strike if its 11-point charter of demands including increment in price of dairy products by 25 per cent is not addressed.
"The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) decision to hike the price of milk by Rs 4 per litre, dairy farmers' price of milk by Rs 2.76 and processing price by Rs 1.24 has not been implemented yet," said CDCAN president Dhakaram Aryal. He added this was why they had decided to restart their protest.
"The demands include the handover of 6 bighas of land in Sarlahi to operate a powder milk industry, to correct the step of the board of sending four representatives instead of seven and to present recommendation of industries that have not been able to clear the debt to NDDC for the milk cooling machine,"
said Aryal adding that the association will urge the finance ministry to mention special financial assistance in the budget to develop the dairy industry. He said they will urge the government to introduce 50 per cent concession on dairy animals farms, 100 per cent concession in insurance and to import 1500 genetically enhanced dairy animals in the country within this fiscal year.
