Chaudhary Group (CG), one of the leading business houses in the country, on Tuesday launched a corporate social responsibility (CSR) project, which mainly focuses on supporting education and sports.
"Instead of providing support in bits and pieces, we have decided to concentrate on specific sectors only. Hence, our support will focus on education and sports," said Binod Kumar Chaudhary, president of CG.
Popular actors Madan Krishna Shrestha and Hari Bamsha Acharya unveiled the logo of the project amid a function here on Tuesday. CG also unveiled two slogans -- ´Educated Nepali; Prosperous Nepal´ and ´Energetic Nepali; Prosperous Nepal´ -- to match with the themes of its project.
"If employment is the key for raising income, education is its foundation. Without sound education, one will lag behind in competition. Realizing this fact, we have decided to extend support on the education sector," Chaudhary said.
Although run by the corporate house, he stated that programs, implemented under the project, would serve social needs rather than promoting business.
Earlier, CG had run Gyanodaya Scholarship program. However, the program was tied up with its sales promotion campaign. It had also supported sporting events like football and cricket tournaments for younger age groups.
"We were encouraged to support sports after Nepalis started gaining international successes in the age group cricket tournaments," said Nirvana Chaudhary, executive director of CG.
He informed that the CG had been supporting social and health services sector and contributing for literature development through institutions like Lunakaran Das Ganga Devi Hospital, Ganga Avedana Ashram and Lunakaran Das Ganga Devi Literature Academy, among others.
The group has more than 50 industries, business and social units under its umbrella.
