Kathmanduites may soon get some relief from prolonged power cuts as power outage will be reduced to only a few hours, providing relief in mobile services also.
Due to prolonged load-shedding, mobile services are in a shambles. Message delivery failure, network not available, crossconnections and other service failures are part of daily life
Even the Nepal Telecom (NT) web message service gets interrupted time and again. Recently, NT’s short message service (SMS) got interrupted.
However, NT spopkesperson Surendra Thike said, “The mobile quality within Kathmandu Valley is definitely uneven, the quality of mobile service is the best within the range of the tower of a particular area. About 96-104 people can have two way conversations at a time. More than that cannot be connected as it’s beyond the tower’s capacity.” According to Thike, the internal moni- toring system — Key Performance Indicator — has shown some improvement in the quality of mobile services. However, there still can be network problems during busy hours. “We are moving ahead with the establishment of Base Trans-receiver Station (BTS). Till date, we have 700 BTS and we have a target of 900 BTS for this fiscal year. Radio optimization work is also going on to increase the parameter of network services,” said Thike.
Talking about the SMS interruption problem, NT deputy manager Anil Joshi said, “We do have problems in our SMS service and we are working to rectify the SMS system. We had technical problems in SMS delivery due to system error which will soon be repaired.”
