Simrik Air starts flying Agni Air's plane


Simrik Airlines has started flying Agni Air aircraft, which had halted its operation a year ago by signing a lease agreement of five years. Simrik on Wednesday operated three flights to Lukla with Agni´s 17-seat Dornier-228. Speaking at a press meet in the capital, Rameshore Thapa, chairman of Simrik Airlines said the company will fly both in remote as well as urban destinations. The company plans to fly another Dornier aircraft of Agni to Jomsom, Pokhara and Phaplu in November while three remaining Jetstream will be managed within three months. All these planes are grounded at TIA. With the lease agreement Simrik now has seven aircraft. Earlier it had two 19-seater Beechcrafts. “We have challenges ahead. We have to run the management properly,” said Thapa. CEO of Grand Bank Limited Sudhir Khatri, said Simrik has agreed to clear the loans owed by Agni. Agni´s owes Rs 570 million to three banks including Grand Bank Limited. Agni Air has taken Rs 650 million loan from Sunrise Bank International Leasing and finance Company Limited and Grand Bank. These banks have provided additional loan of Rs 200 million to Simrik. Simrik Air will be returning the planes back to Agni Air after the lease contract ends in five years. As per the agreement, Simrik will take 70 percent profit while Agni will get 30 percent profit during the contract period.
