NAC’s Bœing returns from maintenance

AFTER 50 days, the Bœing 9N-ACA aircraft of Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) is back to regular service. The aircraft was sent to ST Aerospace Singapore for maintenance on June 14. The aircraft, with passengers onboard from Kula Lumpur, Malaysia, is scheduled to land at Tribhuvan International Airport at 11:00 pm on Sunday, according to NAC. The plane was sent for the maintenance for 26 days, but it took an additional 24 days. “With the arrival of the aircraft, we will reschedule the cut-off flights to different sectors,” said Ganesh Bahadur Chand, spokesperson for NAC. The corporation had slashed its regular schedule on the Kula Lumpur and Hong Kong sectors. Although NAC claimed that the delay in maintenance delayed the delivery of the aircraft, sources said untimely payment of the maintenance charge delayed the delivery. “As NAC was unable to release the money on time, maintenance work had stopped in the midway,” a source said, adding the delay caused a loss of around Rs 170 million for NAC. NAC makes a transaction worth Rs 5-6 million per flight (one-way) on each international sector. Last year, the two Bœing planes earned Rs 5 billion revenues. Meanwhile, flights at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) were forced to delay by more than half an hour on Sunday due to the damage at some parts of the runway. Airport officials said TIA was closed from 2:10 pm to 2:50 pm for maintenance. Last Friday, scores of flights were delayed and diverted due to the same problem. The officials said such problems occur regularly during the monsoon.
