Home appliances sales improves

After facing slump in sales till May, white goods sales has started picking up to the surprise of dealers. Major market players are experiencing growth in sales of products like refrigerators, washing machine and air conditioners from June.

Officials of CG Electronics - a major market player in terms of home appliances - said they were already exceeding their targeted monthly sales which was very difficult to meet during winter.

“We are experiencing significant rise in sales of white goods and other electronic appliances. Being one of the major players in the market, we can say that the market scenario for home appliances has improved over the past couple of months,” said Purshottam Pudasaini, sales head of LG products in CG Electronics. He claimed that CG Electronics holds 43 percent market share in washing machine market, 33 percent in air conditioner and 40 percent in refrigerator.

CG Electronics is the authorized distributor of home appliances by LG and Kelvinator and also the manufacturer of CG brand of home appliances.

Srihari Nepal, marketing manager of Orbit International - the authorized distributor of Beko home appliances for Nepal, echoed Pudasaini. “In comparison to May, our sales increased by nearly 25 percent in June,” Nepal said.

Home appliances sales had started dropping from November, 2010, due largely to power cuts for longer durations. Even the sales of appliances like dish washer and microwave oven had faltered due to power cuts.

Nepal claimed that the sale of Beko washing machines stands at more than 1,000 units a year. “Demand for home appliances is growing every year. Had there been now power cut, sales would have been even better,” added Nepal.

Him Electronics - the authorized distributor of Samsung products for Nepal - is also seeing rise in sales of home appliances since July.

“Certainly, there has been an increase in the sales of home appliances in recent months,” said Amitesh Roy, marketing and communication officer of Him Electronics.
