Yeti Airlines plants 3,000 saplings in Dhangadhi

YETI Airlines on Friday planted more than 3,000 saplings in Dhangadhi as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR). The carrier’s Green Far West campaign started in 2010 with Raaika Tours and Travels in Dhangadhi has planted 70,000 saplings so far in Kailali, Kanchanpur and Doti districts in the Far Western Region. “We have targeted planting 30,000 more saplings in these districts this year,” said Amar Shahi, managing director of Raaika Tours and Travels. The project is also being run in Bardia and Baitadi districts. Rajendra Man Singh Bhandari, district forest officer in Dhangadhi, said the social initiative would provide environmental benefits. “Each tree planted helps to offset environmental impact.” sYeti has a policy to plant a tree sapling for every passenger flying its Kathmandu- Dhangadhi-Kathmandu route or Kathmandu-Nepalgunj- Kathmandu route in one of the chosen community forests in the selected region. Yeti Airlines donates Rs 20 for each one-way ticket and Rs 40 for each return ticket to the programme. “Yeti Airlines is committed to reducing the impact of carbon emissions on the environment. We pass on all funds collected for this social initiative,” said Roshan Regmi, media manager of Yeti Airlines. “As of now, 150,000 saplings have been planted in the Far Western Region, and we have planned to increase the number to 200,000 by this year.”
