The government has initiated the process of appointing Consulate Generals to Kolkata and Lhasa as well as economic counselor at Nepali Embassy in New Delhi.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has recommended Nagendra Jha, joint secretary at the Ministry of Land Reforms and Management (MoLRM) for Kolkata and Chandra Kumar Ghimire, joint secretary at the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies (MoCS) for Lhasa.
Similarly, it has recommended Hari Prasad Basyal, joint secretary at the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoTCA), for the post of economic counselor at Nepali Embassy in New Delhi.
The post of Nepal´s Consulate General to Kolkata is lying vacant for the past three weeks after Suresh Man Shrestha was promoted to secretary. Similarly, the posts of Consulate General to Lhasa and economic counselor at Nepali Embassy in New Delhi are becoming vacant as Naindra Upadhyay and Kedar Bahadur Adhikari are about to complete their four-year term.
Among the recommended officers, only Ghimire, who heads Planning and International Trade Division at the MoCS, is knowledgeable about trade issues. Basyal heads Tourism Industry Division at MoTCA, while Jha was transferred to MoLRM just about two months ago.
