With Lahan -- the headquarters of Siraha district -- rapidly developing as an urban city, people in the district are feeling the need for an airport.
Lahan is fast turning itself into a commercial town. The district bordering India receives significant number of Indian tourists. Thus, people from all walks of life have stressed on the need for an airport. Those lobbying for an airport have selected Bhutanidanda in northern Siraha as the best place to build an airport. Constituent Assembly member Laxman Mehata said the district must have an airport because it is developing as one of the main customs checkpoints.
Echoing his view, another lawmaker Raj Lal Yadav said that since the district is turning into an industrial hub, an airport is urgently required. Businessmen have also jumped on the airport demand bandwagon.
"From the population, commercial and religious points of view, nobody can deny the need for an airport," said Lahan Chambers of Commerce and Industry chairman Ashok Agrawal.
