Telecom Team to Study Site Damage

Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) officials along with representatives of Nepal Telecom (NT), United Telecom Ltd (UTL) and Spice Nepal left for inspection of the site along Birgunj-Hetauda highway that got damaged during the construction of Mero Mobile’s optical fibre cable pipeline, said NTA director Ananda Raj .

While laying Mero Mobile’s cable pipeline cables of NTC and UTL got displaced. “We take care not to disturb cables placed by other operators. Our contractors are working very cautiously,” claimed Michael, chief technical officer at Mero Mobile. NT spokesperson Surendra Thike said underground facilities like ducts and cables should be installed with maximum horizontal separation to ensure that network services are not disturbed during maintenance. He said pipelines must be kept at least a meter apart.

UTL’s general manager-technical urged service providers to maintain healthy competition.

“Due to damage to the optical pipes, our network traffic was gone for about 40 hours and some 40-50 cables have been exposed,” he said.

It is almost a month since the work is going on. Repair work is on at 25 different sites.
